Kenwood Investments formed Sonoma Media Investments, LLC, in 2012. Under Kenwood Investment’s management, an investor group was formed to acquire and operate the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Sonoma Magazine, North Bay Business Journal, Sonoma Index-Tribune, and Petaluma Argus-Courier. This constitutes the largest publishing business in the North Bay, succeeding at turning a once struggling operation into a growing and profitable business.

Sonoma Media Investments Acquired by Nation’s Largest Private Newspaper Operator

In May 2025, Sonoma Media Investments, parent company of The Press Democrat, was sold to MediaNews Group, a subsidiary of Alden Global Capital. MediaNews Group is the nation's largest private operator of newspapers, with a significant presence in California, including the San Jose Mercury News and the San Diego Union-Tribune. The acquisition includes a provision to honor the existing contract with the Pacific Media Workers Guild, ensuring continued support for the editorial staff . READ MORE HERE
